20 lessons that shaped me this year
Good evening all,
I turn 32 tomorrow, and I was reflecting this morning on the biggest lessons I’ve learnt this year.
They span across all aspects of life, and I noted them down no particular order. I have categorised them loosely simply for ease of consumption.
I hope they spark some food for thought.
Lessons at 31
Adventures:
Spend as much time as possible in places that make you feel alive.
You’ll never regret the trip, even if it means losing out on some sleep.
Make the most of every small gap of time in work trips to experience as much as possible of new cities.
Development:
Visibility is key.
If you have the ability to take action to remove the thing you're complaining about from your life and choose not to, you have no right to continue complaining.
Don’t feel guilty about prioritising yourself, because you’re the only one who fully knows what you want.
Keep doing the activities that make you uncomfortable because that’s when you grow the most.
Effort is only effort when it begins to hurt.
Determine a small number of the most important tasks and focus efforts on completing those, minimise time on everything else.
Be proactive in setting up time with those you can learn from.
Emotional baggage:
Unpack emotional baggage and systematically address each area.
Reflecting on pain from the past just prolongs the suffering.
Do all you can to avoid stress imposed upon you by others.
Relationships:
If you’re not full of enthusiasm, say no. Life is too short to spend time going through the motions.
The time spent with family is limited, be fully present in their presence.
Lifestyle:
Spend the extra money for higher quality.
The sanctity of your own space is totally worth the cost.
Getting quality sleep the night before is the most important first step to having a successful day.
Spend less time thinking about it and just get started doing it.
Factor slack in to schedules.
